The Longshore Drift is the current that moves up eastern Australia and washes up sand, and flotsam and jetsam up on the beach. Those who travel it with their makeshift sails, rudders and paddles are known as the Longshore Drifters.
Rebecca Ward casts her molten sterling silver into cuttlefish bone moulds that produce a design reminiscent of waves and tide patterns, and her shapes are like the oars and rudders used by the Drifters. Rebecca fossicks along the beaches of New Zealand for these naturally polished schist pebbles.
