Custom orders

A custom order is an order for a product we don't stock. For example, we typically only stock one or two sizes in each ring, and we often have requests for the ring to made to another size. We require up-front payment for custom orders and we cannot accept returns on custom products. When you place a custom order, we will contact you within 24 hours to confirm details such as size and lead time, which is typically 2-3 weeks plus shipping time.

If you would like to request a custom order, or have any questions, please contact us.

Tax

Orders shipped within Australia

All orders shipped within Australia include Australian GST (Goods and Services Tax) in the prices shown.

Orders shipped outside Australia

No sales tax is applied to orders shipped outside Australia, but please be aware that all items entering a foreign country are subject to customs inspection and the assessment of duties and taxes in accordance with that country's national laws. The buyer is responsible for all duties and taxes incurred.

Currency fluctuations

All prices not shown in Australian dollars are converted from the Australian dollar price. We update our exchange rates on a regular basis, so you may see prices fluctuate sightly from week to week.

Please also be aware that all payments will be processed in Australian dollars, and that due to the currency conversion, the amount billed to your credit card may differ slightly (usually lower) from the total price shown at checkout.

About international sizing
To keep us on our toes, there are various ring sizing systems used across the world. The most common are the UK/Australia system, and the US system. The UK and Australia use an alphabetical system ranging from A-Z. The USA uses a numbered system ranging from 1-13. The EU seem to have the only sensible system which uses the inner circumference of the ring as the size (i.e. circumference of 55mm, is a size 55).

Because we source jewellery from all over the world, you will find that different rings may use different ring size systems. For example, designers in the US will use the US system, and designers in Australia will use the UK/Australia system. So we have created tools for you to be able to determine your ring size in both systems, and compare sizes with the conversion table.

Caring for your jewellery

To keep your jewellery looking it's best:
  • Take care not to expose it to perfume, hairspray or harsh chemicals
  • Avoid placing excess strain on chains, neckpieces and bracelets

Cleaning sterling silver jewellery

Due to the copper in sterling silver you will notice the metal darkens and oxides overtime. To maintain the shine and finish of your jewellery:
  • Clean larger items such as rings and bangles with a soft polish cloth. These cloths can be purchased from department stores and are impregnated with cleaning compound to maintain the shine of your piece.
  • Clean chains and fine wires with 'silver foam', also typically available from your department store. Gently swab the silver components with a damp sponge covered in 'silver foam', then rinse clean. Foam can be used on jewelry including components such as freshwater pearls, crystals and semi precious stones, but always check the directions on the product you buy. Take care not to leave foam on products for extended periods of time.

Maintaining your brushed satin matte finish

If your silver jewellery has a brushed satin matte look, you can maintain it easily yourself. Follow the instructions below. This method will also remove any discolouring or shallow scratches.
  1. Grab a scouring pad (from under your sink or at your local store) and run it under the tap to make it moist
  2. Rub your jewelry in a single direction with the scourer, take care not to rub parts of the jewellery without the brushed finish
  3. Rinse clean and let dry naturally

Maintaining your oxidised silver finish

An oxidised silver finish is delicate, and designed to fade over time. To prolong the finish do not use silver cleaning agents on oxidised finishes. Try warm water and a drop of dishwashing liquid, then buff very gently with a cloth, if needed.

Maintaining your Smug anodised titanium

The patterned metal of your Smug jewellery is anodised titanium. To clean it, rub gently with a soft cloth. Do not use silver or metal polish, as it will damage the colour and the pattern.

About rhodium plating

Rhodium plating is used to prevent your jewellery from scratching and tarnishing.

Rhodium plated sterling silver will retain it's shine and colour longer than uncoated sterling silver which will appear dull and discolour over time. Our Darkcloud Silver range is rhodium plated to ensure it's appearance remains spectacular throughout it's lifetime.
